Nobody Ever Changed the World on 40 Hours a Week

When starting a business there are a lot of risks involved and it requires almost an unlimited amount of energy, willpower, commitment and resilience.

It is not something everyone should do. Some people appreciate more having only to work for 40h a week and have the other 128 for themselves and their family.

And that’s ok.

But for those with big ambitions, working 40h won’t even be close to enough. So you you have big goals, if you want to make a change in the world, you’re gonna have to put countless hours into it. You’re gonna have to make sacrifices, that’s just how it is.

If you believe in something work nights and weekends – it won’t feel like work.

Kevin Rose

If you believe you need to have a lot of capital to start, you couldn’t be more wrong. Walt Disney and Apple started in garages. Do what you can with what you have and never be satisfied.

Elon Musk had an excruciating year that sometimes made him sleep on his factory’s floor and work more than 120 hours a week. Now he has tuned down to a more “manageable” schedule with just 80 to 90 hours a week (12 hours a day).

Let’s think about what he is trying to accomplish as far as we know.

Sustainable transportation and home energy with Tesla.
Faster transportation with The Boring Company.
Get people to Mars with SpaceX.
Bring faster cheaper internet all cross the globe with Starlink.
Build a brain-machine interface (BMI) with Neuralink.

Can you imagine the amount of desire needed to be able to do all that? Impossible is not a word on Elon’s vocabulary.

If it’s important to you, you will find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse.

With that being said, this was a more inspirational post than a practical one, but on the next post we are going to talk about time management and destroy the “I don’t have time” excuse everyone uses to explain why they are not successful.

Thank you for reading.

See you next time.
