Hi everyone! Hows it going?

As you may know, I’m currently working as a mobile developer and let me tell you, creating a successful app is not easy. There is so much to think about… Is the idea a good idea? Will people like it? What is the best implementation? How much will it cost to create, maintain and scale? How will it be marketed?

Hi everyone! Hows it going?

As you may know, I’m currently working as a mobile developer and let me tell you, creating a successful app is not easy. There is so much to think about… Is the idea a good idea? Will people like it? What is the best implementation? How much will it cost to create, maintain and scale? How will it be marketed?

For most of developers, marketing is a “ew” word. We just want to get the specifications of what we need to create and do it. For me, I’ve been interested in marketing for quite a while because I want to know everything that I can in order to start and scale a successful business and marketing is a big part of it. Lucky for me, I’ve joined the marketing team at work and my job is to provide all kinds of data to be analysed by the team. Seeing all those graphics with user info gives us a very good idea of how the users are experiencing the app, what features they like more or less, where is the app crashing etc.

So from now on we will start digging more into the marketing topic, not only for apps bus for all businesses and personal branding.

What is digital marketing?

Digital marketing is the marketing of products or services through technological channels like a social media, website, email or even SMS. Its goal is to let people know you have a business and you have something they might want.

A Marketeer is a person responsible for developing, implementing and managing marketing campaigns that promote a company and its products and/or services drive website traffic and acquiring leads and customers.

Marketeers must identify what digital technologies are best for the business, and use analytic tools to measure traffic to understand user experience and optimise marketing campaigns, email marketing, social media and display and search advertising.

Also, there are various types of digital marketing. Here are some:

Content Marketing – This is the type of marketing where you proliferate your content on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Podcasts, Blogs etc. You can make YouTube videos out of everything, makeup, trips, clothing, coding, cooking. Use these platforms to bring awareness and recognition (like I’m doing with this blog and soon with a YouTube channel *hyped*).

Online Marketing – This is the management of online ads on platforms like Facebook, Instagram or Google. The goal with this one is usually to bring users to your website, you could have a special offer for Black Friday for example.

Native Marketing – Native advertising is a type of advertising that matches the form and function of the platform upon which it appears. These ads reduce a consumers’ ad recognition by blending the ad into the native content of the platform, using somewhat ambiguous language such as like “sponsored” or “branded” content. I like to call these “ninja” adds.

Marketing Automation – Automation has been growing to almost every industry since the industrial revolution and marketing is no different. There are a lot of software tools to help automate, manage, deploy and get that precious user data that you need to understand what’s going on and scale.

Email Marketing – This is the writing of email campaigns. Its best if it not just a single email saying “Buy Here” but a sequence of emails guiding the person accordingly to its choices.

Online PR – If you find a blog or a page where the readers are potential clients for you, ask them to do a dedicated post about your product or service, this will be a good way to get some organic leads.

Affiliate Marketing – We have all seen people posting photos on Instagram or other platforms with a product like tea, protein, clothing, etc, with a link to where you can buy that product and if you use their coupon you get a discount. The better the affiliates you have promoting your product, the better the results.

So there you go, marketing is not just about making fancy banners, there is a lot to it and we will be talking more about it in future posts.

See you next time.
